Welcome to the home page of the History Teacher Education Network in the United Kingdom (HTEN).

HTEN was established to promote the development of history teacher education.

HTEN's primary purpose is to act as a forum for discussion and debate of history teacher education issues, and to disseminate recent research findings. HTEN encourages and promotes research into the learning and teaching of history at all levels by both new and experienced researchers.

HTEN embraces both Initial Teacher Education and the Continuing Professional Education of history teachers, and also those involved in other aspects of history teacher education, such as museums education.

The main annual event of HTEN is a 2-3 day conference, generally held in July. A publication arising out of the inputs to the annual conference is published, and all members attending the conference receive copies of the publication arising out of the conference proceedings. Institutional members also receive a copy of conference proceedings for the institution’s library.
