on teaching and learning and its implications for history education
The paper addresses some issues about teaching and learning which have arisen from research carried out by myself and others over the last 15 to 20 years. This research has been concerned almost entirely with subjects and domains other than history. The paper goes on to make some connections between this research and history, and raises some questions about teaching and learning. The issues are considered under four maim headings, as follows: · Children's conceptions The presentation touches on the kinds of knowledge and understanding which children and adults bring to learning encounters, about the interaction which takes place during such encounters, and about the wider social contexts in which these encounters take place.
