The teaching of citizenship through the teaching of history

The focus of the paper will be history teachers’ perceptions of the ways in which they consider pupils learn about citizenship through their work in history at Key Stage 3 & 4. The methodologies used include; observation of classroom performance, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Approximately 30 secondary schools were involved in the research project. It is hoped to follow up the project by a similar survey of pupils’ perceptions.
